Filming during the pandemic

filming during pandemic

It’s almost been a year since the first lockdown started. We all thought it would be two weeks, maybe three, tops – we were all wrong. I didn’t think it would last this long. It’s become the great depression of our 20’s so to speak. Every day has felt the same: wake up, work out, work, eat, dishes, read, sleep and repeat. It’s as if there’s this blanket of dullness and darkness wrapped around the world. I have hope for the future, and am grateful for our heath and well being, but damn – everyone want’s it to end already.

I found the mental energy to pick the camera up a couple times during the pandemic. I shot some scenes inside my apt. and around neighboring cities in the inland empire. But for the most part everything’s just dead. Businesses are still shut down. Restaurants are either open for outdoor dinning or closed. Weddings are a no-go (most likely pick up again in 2022). So now we all have to pivot to find something worth filming.

Thankfully I’ve been working with Dreambox Creations, a full service agency dedicated to restaurants. I’m eternally grateful for the opportunity to be able to call myself a member of the Dreambox fam. I was able to shoot projects for restaurants like; Round Table Pizza, Polly’s Pies and Zov’s. I’ve been able to call myself the director, the gaffer and the editor for commercial projects – which is pretty awesome. I highly encourage any aspiring filmmaker to try out the blackmagic pocket camera – such a beaut!

This is my first time actually blogging, so bare with me. I was listening to a conversation earlier with Seth Godin and he recommends all creatives to blog every day to get the thoughts out of your head and onto the keyboard. So, thanks Seth. Let’s see how this works out.
